Feb 2018 Master’s Message
The greatest of these is charity.
This month, members of Ancient York Lodge came together for a brother in need and raised a large amount of money for a brother whose family home was heavily damaged in a fire. I was awestruck by the generosity of all those who gave, and I could not have been any prouder to be the Master of this Lodge. Something I will always remember for the rest of my life was the look the overwhelming gratitude that was in his face when Wor. Busby, Bro. Mader told him we passed the hat. But the thing of it was that he hadn’t opened it, he had no idea of the amount written on the front, he just knew that his brothers were there for him, and that my brothers is the point. The hug that was given to me that day was powerful, palpable and Masonic in every way possible. Charity doesn’t just mean donating money, or taking the shirt off your back to help another in need, it’s that undying love for each other, knowing that no matter where you are in life, your brother is here for you, ready to assist you with what you truly need. Whether it be financial aid, helpful advice, or even something as simple as an act of forgiveness. Next time you come to lodge, take a good look around at everyone in that room, and be reminded that no matter what we are all going through, we’re never alone. I’ve got your back and you’ve got mine, and that my brothers, is what Freemasonry is all about.
